QUESTIONS&ASWERS

D I suppose that, due to the complexity and the duration of the surgery, the immediate load procedure may be painful.
R Not only is it absolutely painless during the surgery but also, if it is performed in conscious sedation as we suggest, it also doesn't cause pain after the surgery, especially the following night. Moreover, this kind of sedation also spares tiredness and impatience during the surgery.

D Up to what age is it possible to be treated with this surgery?
R There are no age limits for this treatment; in fact, also in very old people the are perfectly bone-integrated. Our working team has reached its great record with a brilliant 94 year-old man.

D I have been told that my "bone is thin", so I cannot have implants and be submitted to an immediate load.
R It's possible to place implants in any situation; anyway, in of massive bone atrophy, we must proceed, beforehand, with an autologous bone grafting reconstruction of alveolar ridges. Some months after the surgery, it's possible to place an immediate load fixed prosthesis, as our wide case report shows, even if few centres can do it.

D Are failure risks high?
R Theoretically, it's not possible to exclude failure, but in our fully documented reports, all cases have reached a positive result.

D What general diseases contraindicated this intervention?
R There are undoubtedly some pathological situations that make this procedure unadvisable, such as coagulopathies, serious heart disease, treatment with bisphosphonates, jaw radiotherapy at doses above 65 grays but these situations are very infrequent and must be considered case by-case. For example, compensated diabetes or hypertension are not obstacles to intervention.
