ORAL SURGERY IN CONSCIOUS SEDATION

Major dental care such as multiple extractions of included teeth, multiple implants, jaw cysts, bone grafting, jaw sinus increases, etc.., if performed under local anesthesia, are poorly tolerated because they last long.
A long surgery time may cause fatigue and impatience to the patient and anxious conditions may have a negative effect on cardio-circulatory conditions.
Besides,  in case of complex surgery, the local anesthetic may fail to ensure a complete and constant coverage to pain.
For these reasons, it is particularly effective and useful to associate  an anesthetic support, which ensures a state of "conscious sedation" with intravenous drug.
Thank to this, the perception of pain is greatly reduced and the patient experiences a sense of calm and tranquillity and loses perception of time.
In addition to this, surgical times are reduced, since pauses to rest the patient are not necessary.
Experience has shown that the benefits will extend also in post-surgery period with good control over pain and edema.
Conscious sedation is a safe practice because anesthetic drugs are not used; anyway we recommend to observe fasting in the 4 hours before the surgery and to report any allergies or intolerances to drugs. Moreover it is advisable to ask someone to drive you home after the surgery and not to drive for the whole day.
Finally, it is the best treatment for all people who are particularly anxious.
